Camp Sagawau Environmental Education Center
What is Camp Sagawau ?

Camp Sagawau is an environmental education center serving you by
providing relevant and interesting educational programs. These include
naturalists walks and hikes covering many subject areas and Biological
and Earth Science field trips for students from junior high school to
college.

During the summer college credit environmental education workshops are
presented in cooperation with Governors State University. During the
winter Camp Sagawau becomes a Nordic center with cross country skiing,
classes and ski rentals.
Why is Camp Sagawau Special ?

Sagawau Canyon Illinois Nature Preserve, the only canyon in Cook
County.

David Blenz Memorial Restoration Prairie, one of the earliest prairie
restoration projects in the region.

Sag Valley Dolomite Prairie a restoration project of one of the most
endangered eco-systems in North America.

The Farm House has been in use since 1858 It is one of the oldest
remaining wood frame buildings in Cook County.

The Chicago Bird Observatory researches birds and presents education
programs to the visitor.

Together these sites serve educational and scientific purposes as a
“LIVING  LIBRARY’.
