Bird Banding:
Come and visit the Chicagoland Bird Observatory at Camp Sagawau. The American Bird Conservancy and the National Geographic Society has named the Chicagoland Bird Observatory as one of the Important Bird Areas of the United States. You ma yobserve bird banding on Saturdays and Sundays in October, weather permitting. Volunteers are welcome. For more information call: 630 257-2045.
Volunteer Opportunities: If you are interested in nature and would like to become involved in preserving, restoring and caring for our native ecosystems, Camp Sagawau needs your help. Volunteering is a fun way to show your support and to learn about our natural history.
There are many opportunities at Camp Sagawau. We need friendly people to assist the public, answer phones, help with trail maintenance and restoration. Ski season help is also needed.

Public Programs
Camp Sagawau Environmental Education Center
Fall Programs 2006
Please refer to the Calendar for dates and times. Most Programs last
two hours. Please call, 630 257-2045 to register for the following programs.
Bird Migration Hike:
Bring your binoculars and join the naturalists for a two-hour hike to
observe migrating and resident birds. If you do not have
binoculars, Camp Sagawau has a small number for loan.
Waterfowl Watch:
Observe migration and resident fowl at McGinnis Slough. We
will meet in the parking lot on the west side of LaGrange Rd.
(about 13800 South). This is a two-hour program.
Fall Color Experiences:
Learn to capture the colors of the season artistically with water-
colors, Colored pencils and markers in this two-hour program.
Fall Prairie Tour:
Visit our Prairie during the fall aspect. Enjoy the seasons blooms
and the tall grass in all it’s splendor.
Preparing for Winter:
See how nature gets ready for the long winter season. This two-hour
program will feature a hike to observe how plants and animals
prepare for winter.
Fall Color Tour:
Take a stroll on Camp Sagawau’s trails to enjoy the autumn
splendor and learn how the seasons colors are created in
this two-hour program.
Caring for Your Trees
And Shrubs:
Learn how to nurture the woodyPlants in your yard. We will show
you how to prune your trees and shrubs and protect them during the
winter months.
Bird Feeding:
Bird feeding in fall and winteris not only beneficial for our avian
friends, but enjoyable as well. Learn about the types of food to
provide and what kinds of birds might visit your feeding station.
Fossil Hunt:
Look for evidence of ancient sea Life. Meet 1 mile east of Camp
Sagawau on route 83.
Canyon Tours :During a two-hour program learn
about our area’s geologic history and take a hike through one of
Illinois’ Nature Preserves to view rare plants and wildlife. Come
prepared to get your feet wet! We will wade the creek and
water levels vary with the amount of rainfall.

conclusion of the program.
